Dance demands a high level of physical and mental performance. It calls for strength, flexibility, balance, and precision, all working together. This unique combination places significant stress on the body, and it requires specialized care to keep you performing at your best.

At Optimize Physiotherapy, we work with dancers to support strength, improve control, and build resilience. Our goal is to help you stay ready for the stage or studio while reducing your risk of injury and supporting a long, healthy dance career.

Physiotherapy for Dancers

Dance-specific therapy focuses on more than just treating injuries. It is designed to maintain and enhance your body’s capacity to meet the intense physical demands of dance.

We work with dancers of all ages and training backgrounds. Our therapy supports you through:

  • Building strength and improving neuromuscular control
  • Restoring flexibility and range of motion
  • Managing pain and inflammation
  • Rehabilitating common dance injuries such as ankle sprains, knee sprain, hip tightness, and low back pain
  • Addressing technique and alignment concerns
  • Creating strategies that support long-term performance and injury prevention

Your treatment plan is unique to you. We take into account the way you move, your training goals, and the demands of your specific style of dance.

What to Expect

Step One: Assessment

Your first appointment begins with a comprehensive movement assessment. We review your dance history, your current concerns, and your future goals. This helps us identify movement imbalances, overuse injuries, and areas that need support.

Step Two: Treatment and Rehab

After the assessment, we create a treatment plan tailored to you. Sessions may include manual therapy, mobility work, and strengthening exercises. Our focus is on building long-term resilience so you can keep training, performing, and progressing.

Step Three: Progress and Return to Performance

As you move forward, we regularly evaluate your progress and adjust your plan based on how you are feeling and how your body is responding. We support you through every phase of your return to performance and help you continue moving with strength and confidence.

Meet Physiotherapist Peyton

With a lifelong foundation in competitive dance, I have a deep, personal understanding of the physical and mental demands that dancers face.

I began dancing at the age of three, training and competing in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and modern dance styles. My training took me across North America, including summer intensives at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City and Los Angeles. I have performed in Disney parades, appeared in local music videos, and successfully completed my Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Advanced 1 Ballet, as well as the Canadian Dance Teachers’ Association (CDTA) Advanced Tap and Jazz exams.

As a certified CDTA dance instructor, I spent two years teaching and choreographing before pursuing my bachelor’s degree and becoming a physiotherapist. Today, I combine my clinical expertise with my firsthand dance experience to help dancers build strength, resilience, and longevity in their careers.

If you are looking for dance physiotherapy in Edmonton, Peyton is here to help. Take the first step toward moving with strength and confidence.
