What to Expect In a Motor Vehicle Accident Treatment
Step One: Contact Your Insurance
If you’ve been involved in a Motor Vehicle Accident, you must first contact your car insurance provider to report the accident to start the claims process. They will assign an Accident Insurance Adjuster to your case.
From there, you have a choice is who you see for your injury. Your insurance company may make recommendations, but ultimately, you are in control of who you see for your treatment and rehabilitation.
Step Two: Contact Optimize Physiotherapy
It’s not necessary to see your physician prior to coming for a physiotherapy assessment, however if there are any serious medical concerns following your accident we do recommend you seek the advice of a doctor.
When you choose Team Optimize for your injury treatment, we’re with you every step of the way. We help you with your insurance company’s paper work, and perform an initial assessment to see the extent of the injury.
Step Three: Your Injury Treatment Plan
Following the initial MVA assessment, your physiotherapist will inform you if you’re eligible to receive treatments within the “Diagnostic Treatment Protocols” as legislated by the government of Alberta. These protocols are a pre-authorized set of treatments that must be completed within 90 days of your accident. The number of treatments authorized depends on the type of injury you have sustained. Your physiotherapist will discuss this with you further following the initial assessment.
If your treatment is not authorized within these protocols, treatment is then covered by your extended health benefit plan. If you do not have an extended health benefit plan, or if it does not cover the full cost of the treatment, then the motor vehicle insurance would cover the remaining balance.
